School Curriculum
Every child, every chance, every day
At Netheravon, our children are at the heart of everything we do, of the decisions we make and curriculum that we offer.
We believe that all of our pupils have the potential to do well. Our vision, therefore, is to create an environment where children develop a love of learning, a thirst for knowledge and aspire to be the best they can be. We aim to give all children the best start, nurturing a supportive community where all can thrive and succeed, regardless of their starting
Our curriculum is rooted in our school’s Christian ethos of service, courage and faith, underpinned by the story of Joshua leading Israel to the promised land: Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9. In the same way that Joshua had courage and faith in the service of others, we aim to nurture not only academic success but also spiritual growth and moral character so our children can face challenges with resilience and compassion, knowing they are part of a greater community and guided by the assurance that God is with them wherever they go.
Where possible, subjects are woven into cross-curricular units, centred around key texts. These have been carefully aligned with history, geography and science areas of study to create a connected series of lessons. The key texts are also studied as part of our whole-class reading and writing lessons so children can make strong connections between subjects.Where this is not possible, subjects are taught discretely in blocks of learning. Our curriculum units have been carefully chosen to reflect the lives and experiences of those within our school, as well as the communities who live beyond our boundaries. This includes links to our military and multi-cultural community.
Our aim is to deliver a rich, progressive knowledge and skills-based curriculum that is engaging and that empowers and challenges children. As such, our curriculum is planned sequentially, with key knowledge, skills and vocabulary mapped out ensuring both teachers and pupils are clear with what they are expected to learn, how they will learn and, crucially, why it is important to learn. We organise this into a cumulative and sequential progression, so that children re-visit key concepts and facts throughout their time with us, so they know more and remember more. These progression documents can be viewed on each subject's page.
We also endeavour to ensure we provide a depth and breadth to our children's learning through a rich bank of curricular and non-curricular visits, trips and visitors - every child, every term, every year.
